The history of my physical place, which is my backyard and patio is pretty interesting to me. My family and I first moved into this house when I was one year old. We have been living here ever since then.
My backyard and patio physical space has definitely changed a lot over time. Although I may not remember much from when I was little, my mom told me that our backyard and patio used to be a wild vegetable garden. I do vaguely remember all the tons of different vegetables my mom used to grow there. There was no patio, just all land, and crops.
I think it was back in my upper elementary or middle school days when we transformed the garden into a patio and backyard space. I remember all of the constant construction work that took place. It did feel exciting once everything was newly made and complete.
The role of my backyard and patio in this history is pretty significant. Growing up, I spent a lot of time in my backyard as we had a huge swing set and playground. I would enjoy swinging and playing with my friends. From playing in the sandbox as a little girl to playing games of badminton as I got older, my backyard was always a fun and energetic place for me to be and just enjoy life.
The patio on the other hand served as more of a relaxation point. Sometimes alone, sometimes with my family, I would lounge on the outdoor furniture and just relax. Other days, we would host big parties outside on our patio. I remember we hosted a successful graduation party for my cousin and we had everything outdoors from the food, cake, setup, decorations, etc. We also did a lot of Eid holiday parties outside there on the patio as well.
Through all of these experiences, I have shaped and been shaped by the physical space of my backyard and patio and their history. There are so many wonderful memories in these places, and I know I will definitely have so many more in the future.
My digital place is Instagram. The history of Instagram is quite interesting. Instagram is a photo and video-sharing social media application that was launched on October 6th, 2010 by a man named Kevin Systrom. The first prototype of Instagram was a web app called Burbn, which was inspired by Kevin Systrom’s love of whiskey and bourbon.
When the Instagram app was launched on Oct 6th, 2010, it went up to 25,000 users in one day. From the beginning, the main focus of the app was to feature photographs, specifically those taken on mobile devices.
In less than two years, Facebook acquired the company of Instagram for $1 billion in cash and stocks!!!
Instagram has changed over time in many different ways. I remember having instagram back then when the picture quality used to be pretty bad and pixelated. Also, you were only able to post pictures, like and comment on those pictures, and follow people. Over time, the quality of pictures definitely got a lot better, and many more features came about. This included different ways to edit these pictures, DMs, or direct messages, and Instagram stories. These are all such key features that enhanced the use of this app.
I have been shaped by this digital place and its history because I believe I started using Instagram when it first launched back in 2010. I have experienced this app grow and evolve, and maintain its place as being an important social media site for our community.

I had no idea that Instagram was originally inspired by a love of bourbon and whiskey. If it maintained this course, I probably would be more interested in using it.
I will take that under advisement.
I also remember how Instagram used to be when it first came out. It has been interesting to see it evolve with new features throughout the years.
Yes, it is very interesting to look back and see how the app has evolved over time with Direct Messages, Instagram stories, etc. It is also interesting to think that the app is still relevant after so many years!
