I am a doctoral student here at Manhattanville College. At the end of August, I will have completed 3 years of studies in the Higher Educational Leadership Program and will be well on my way to diving deeper into the journey of completing my dissertation. I am taking this class as a part of the certification program for sustainability and to gain more knowledge on the current impact and outcome derived from the presence and interactions within “place”, on African American female doctoral students in traditional U.S. colleges and universities that may provide an adverse collegiate experience. It is my belief that learning is a major part of our lives and if we expect to grow and communicate as well informed and well-intentioned productive individuals, we must embrace critical pedagogy that is culturally relevant to all students as well as socially just.
